Two-minute Freewrite (5)

When Colin hurtled past me time stood still as all of his life flashed before my eyes - it didn't take as long as it should have. In that split second I psyched myself up to "go down there and give him hell". But when I heard a wet crunch instead of a wet splash my legs nearly gave out. The barnacles around him slowly turned pink.

Two-minute Freewrite (4)

An hour later the tide had completely cut us off from our heated dinners that were waiting. In desperation each one of my cousins jumped fully dressed into the bay's sheltered, but freezing, water and swam back to the site. Meanwhile I, in my infinite knowledge, waited for the tide to turn.

As my cousins helped drag me from the sucking spray onto the rocks I gasped for breath and vowed that I would hurl myself into the sea at least once more before we left for home the next week.

Two-minute Freewrite (2)

When I hit the water all the comments of “it's lovely once you're in” hit me as hard as the solid block of ocean. I automatically gasped, swallowed a lungful of water and kicked for the surface in one jerking movement.

“Aw c'mon Eric, jump!”
They were all shouting it now. I was standing at the top of the cliff looking down at the grey foaming sea. I didn't want to jump but my feet were hurting and I could feel a new barnacle cut opening up on my heel.
